Amazon si lancia nel mondo dei tablet presentando il suo device low cost con sistema operativo Android. Esso è caratterizzato da un display da 7″, processore dual core da 1,2 Ghz e 512 MB di RAM. Questo dispositivo verrà venduto a soli 199$ e sarà disponibile solo la versione wifi considerando che è sprovvisto di 3G.
La memoria interna è di 8 GB, ma Amazon mette a disposizione gratis il Cloud Storage per salvare i propri contenuti e alleggerire il carico del processore velocizzando così il dispositivo.
Il display del Kindle Fire ha una risoluzione di 1024 x 600 px (169 ppi). L’autonomia minima dichiarata da Amazon è di ben 7 ore nella riproduzione di video in streaming. Nonostante questo tablet sia ancora solo in fase di preordine si registra che solo nel primo giorno sono stati ordinati circa 95000 dispositivi, cifra elevatissima ma non come fu stato per Apple che registrò circa 300000 preordini con ipad.
